As pastors and church leaders, our calling is anchored in the grace of God through Jesus. That grace shapes how we love people, build church culture, and serve with passion. In a Q&A with church leaders pastors Brian and Bobbie Houston teach us how to build the culture of grace and passion in our churches.
The Grace of God Through Jesus
God’s grace is the foundation of the local church. We were sinners welcomed by Jesus; now we extend that same grace to others. When grace shapes the church, it becomes a community where anyone can encounter Jesus’ love. We preach with simplicity, pointing to the cross rather than our eloquence (1 Cor. 2:2). Knowing Jesus “came into the world to save sinners” (1 Tim. 1:15), we proclaim salvation with clarity and humility.
Grace realigns our hearts to love what Jesus loves. He loves the lost enough to seek them (Luke 19:10), loves the world He died for (John 3:16), and cherishes the Church, His bride (Eph. 5:25). When our church loves the lost, the world, and one another, we reflect the heart of Christ.
Building a Strong Church Culture
A strong church culture is built by faith-filled leadership. Cultivate an evangelistic atmosphere where sharing the gospel is normal. Encourage your team and members to bring others to church, not just invite—personally bringing someone creates a connection that a simple invitation cannot. Each salvation is a miracle that fuels momentum, so celebrate new life in Christ and steward that momentum through discipleship and ongoing outreach (Acts 2:47). This keeps the evangelistic fire burning.
Serving with Commitment and Passion
Remember that church is not merely a place to attend, but who we are as the body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:27). When we embrace being the church, serving becomes a joyful response to God’s love (1 John 4:19).
Ministry will stretch us beyond our comfort zones, but God will never let us break. We may be hard pressed, but not crushed (2 Cor. 4:8-9). In every challenge, His grace sustains us. Lead with passion and rely on the Holy Spirit’s strength (Zech. 4:6). Your zeal will be contagious, inspiring others to service.
Be encouraged: when you center your ministry on grace, foster a culture of faith, and serve with Spirit-filled passion, you align with Jesus’ heart. Keep loving like Jesus, keep bringing people to Him, and keep the fire burning. God’s grace will empower you every step.
